What we do for businesses
We replace old, leaking or fogged windows, put new glass in cracked panes and replace glass doors. We measure every opening first, then give you one written quote for the whole building.
If your business is in a building you rent, we can send the quote to you and your landlord together.
Fogged glass in an older building
A National Bureau of Standards report on sealed double glass says that when the seal fails, moisture gets into the air space and the glass ends up fogged so you can't see through it clearly. We can't wipe that fog away, because it is inside the glass, so we replace the sealed double-pane glass and keep your frame if it's still in good shape.
Permits for commercial window work in Meridian
The City of Meridian says its Commercial Tenant Improvement permits are for projects that include changes or improvements to the inside or outside of an existing building. We check with the city before every commercial job and tell you if yours needs one.
For a new building, the city has other permit types. It says Commercial New permits are for new commercial buildings with one tenant, and Commercial Shell permits are for buildings with several tenant spaces and no new tenant yet. We can supply windows for both, and we work from the plans.
Glass for cold nights and hot afternoons
The National Weather Service office in Boise says nights in the Treasure Valley cool down quickly and the days heat up quickly as well. We pick glass for both.
Your quote from us lists two numbers for every window.
The first rating, the U-factor, tells you how fast heat passes through a window. The lower the U-factor, the less heat gets through, so you want it low.
The solar heat gain coefficient, or SHGC, is a rating for how much of the sun's heat gets through the glass. The lower the number, the less heat comes in.
For homes in the Northern part of the U.S., ENERGY STAR recommends windows with a U-factor of 0.22 or less, and we use that as a starting point for shops and offices too. ENERGY STAR also says that just because a window is expensive does not mean it is energy efficient, so we compare windows with you by these two numbers, not by price.
How we fit them
The Building America Solution Center says properly installed flashing is critical and often required by code to stop water getting in around windows and doors. The flashing we fit is strips of waterproof material taped around the opening, so rain runs down and out, not into the wall.
ENERGY STAR says even the best windows can let air leak in if they are poorly installed, so we seal the gap around every window before we close up the wall.
Older buildings and lead paint
The EPA says its lead paint rule for renovations applies to work in houses, apartments and child-occupied buildings, such as schools and child care centers, built before 1978. It says window replacement is always covered, and that a firm can't do that work in those buildings without being certified. If your building is a school or a child care center from before 1978, tell us when you call, and we'll plan the work around that rule.
What commercial windows cost
We price commercial window replacement for your building once we've measured, and you get that quote in writing.
What to get in writing
Ask for these in writing, whoever you hire:
- Who applies for the permit, and who books the inspections.
- The exact U-factor and SHGC of each window, written into the contract.
- A price split into labor and materials. ENERGY STAR suggests asking contractors to break down the quote this way, and says different dealers may quote different prices for the same product.
- The product warranty and the installation warranty. ENERGY STAR says a decent product warranty should be at least 10 years, and preferably 20 years or lifetime. It says installation warranties are typically less than 5 years.
