Meridian Window Pros fits new construction windows in homes across Meridian. We work from your plans, check each framed opening on site and order the windows to fit it.
We fit new construction windows into walls that are still open, before the siding and the drywall go on, and we fit a replacement window into a wall that is already finished.
The jobs we fit them on
The City of Meridian says its Residential New permits are for construction of new single-family homes, duplexes and townhouses. We fit windows on all three.
The city's Residential Addition permits are for new rooms that will be attached to an existing building. When you add a room, we can match the new windows to the ones you already have.
The city also has a separate permit for accessory dwelling units. We fit windows on these small second homes too.
Keeping water out of the wall
The Building America Solution Center says windows and doors break a wall's water protection layer and create weak spots for leaks. It says properly installed flashing is critical and often required by code to stop water getting in around windows and doors.
The flashing we fit is strips of waterproof material taped around the opening, so rain runs down and out, not into the wall.
The same guide says pan flashing goes at the bottom of each window opening, the place most likely to let water in, and sends any water that gets in back outside. It says to caulk the top and sides of the opening but not the bottom. The caulk we use is a soft filler we squeeze into the joint, and it sets into a seal. We follow that order on every window we put in.
Sealing the gap around each window
We leave a small gap between each window and the framed hole in the wall, which builders call the rough opening.
The Building America guide says to seal that gap on the inside with non-expanding foam or a foam rod and caulk. ENERGY STAR says to make sure the space between the window frame and the rough opening is insulated during installation. ENERGY STAR also says even the best windows can let air leak in if they are poorly installed, so we seal every gap before the drywall goes up.
Glass for cold nights and hot afternoons
The National Weather Service office in Boise says nights in the Treasure Valley cool down quickly and the days heat up quickly as well. We pick glass for both.
Your quote from us lists two numbers for every window.
The first rating, the U-factor, tells you how fast heat passes through a window. The lower the U-factor, the less heat gets through, so you want it low.
The solar heat gain coefficient, or SHGC, is a rating for how much of the sun's heat gets through the glass. The lower the number, the less heat comes in.
For the Northern part of the U.S., ENERGY STAR recommends windows with a U-factor of 0.22 or less. ENERGY STAR also says that just because a window is expensive does not mean it is energy efficient, so we compare windows with you by these two numbers, not by price.
The window styles we fit
We fit every style we sell as a new construction window, including double-hung windows, casement windows, sliding windows, picture windows and bay and bow windows. For a basement bedroom, we size an egress window so the room has a way out.
We fit them with vinyl frames or fiberglass frames.
What new construction windows cost
We price new construction windows for your house once we've seen the plans and measured, and you get that quote in writing.
What to get in writing
Ask for these in writing, whoever you hire:
- The size, style and frame of every window, matched to the openings on your plans.
- The exact U-factor and SHGC of each window, written into the contract.
- A line saying the windows are ENERGY STAR certified for where you live.
- The product warranty and the installation warranty. ENERGY STAR says a decent product warranty should be at least 10 years, and preferably 20 years or lifetime. It says installation warranties are typically less than 5 years.
On the day we fit them
ENERGY STAR says the installer should keep each window's NFRC label, which it calls basically a big sticker, for you, so you have an exact record of what went in, and we hand those labels over.
Before we leave, open and close every new window with us. ENERGY STAR says to check that no window is twisted or set in unevenly.
Questions about new construction windows in Meridian
When should I order new construction windows?
ENERGY STAR says it is typical for high-performance windows to take 6 to 8 weeks, or even 12 weeks, to arrive after ordering, because each one is made to order. We give you a date when you order, so you can plan it around your framing.
Can I use replacement windows in a new home?
We fit new construction windows in new walls, because we fasten them to the framing and tape them in before the siding goes on, and we keep replacement windows for old frames in finished walls.
What if I'm replacing windows in a home that's already built?
The City of Meridian says its residential remodel permits cover changes to the inside or outside of an existing home, and can include replacing windows and doors. For those jobs we fit vinyl replacement windows and the other styles on this site.
Will good windows lower the bills in a new house?
ENERGY STAR says upgrading to ENERGY STAR certified windows lowers household energy bills by an average of 12%.
How do I know the windows are the ones I paid for?
ENERGY STAR says certified windows are independently tested, certified and verified by the National Fenestration Rating Council, or NFRC. We check the label on each window against your order before we fit it.
Can a window be certified and still be wrong for Meridian?
ENERGY STAR says windows must meet U-factor and, where it applies, SHGC limits based on climate zone. It also warns that some companies install windows that are ENERGY STAR certified for the wrong climate zone, so we order windows certified for the Meridian area.
